I went through the old posts on this blog over the last couple of days. Almost none of them hold up.

The earliest ones were written exactly when I was worst at writing anything. What I called a “technical post” was really just walking through someone else’s documentation and copying down the potholes I fell into.

But following someone else’s manual without understanding it or building anything — I don’t think that counts as technical work. Now that I’ve written powerlevel11k and contributed to noctalia and umbriel, I can’t help sneering at what I used to think.

The philosophy part is even more outdated.

Over the summer I went to Tsinghua for a youth AI summer camp organized by Shing-Tung Yau’s foundation. It opened a lot up for me; I’ll write about it separately later.

The contest write-ups don’t count as outdated — they were only ever that day’s mood, and never pretended to be anything else.

I’m not deleting the old posts.

Deleting them would be like editing an epitaph — this blog is literally called Digital Epitaph, and a tombstone shouldn’t keep only the good-looking parts. Shallow, wrong, sentimental — that is genuinely how I wrote back then. The originals stay; this note in front of them is enough.

If I feel like it later I might add a few notes pointing out where I went wrong; not adding them doesn’t matter either.

As for my condition, it’s much better. The medication hasn’t been reduced, but I keep up with regular counselling and overall I’ve been fairly stable.

That’s it.
